The Renewable Electricity Bulletin prepared by the Portuguese Renewable Energy (APREN) highlights that, in the first seven months of the year, renewable energies contributed more than 83% to the generation of a total of 28,458 GWh of electricity in mainland Portugal.

Renewable sources were responsible for over 83% of Portugal’s electricity generation in the first seven months of 2024, which represents a 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This rise in renewable energy, particularly from hydro and solar power, led to a significant reduction in fossil fuel-based electricity production. Portugal ranked fourth in Europe for renewable energy incorporation, emphasizing the country’s strong commitment to the energy transition and climate change mitigation.
