The Algarve Hotel and Tourism Association (AHETA) recently reported that hotel room occupancy in the region for the past month was nearly on par with the same period in 2023. Notably, the Swedish, Dutch, and German markets showed the most significant year-on-year growth, with increases of 0.8, 0.4, and 0.3 percentage points, respectively. However, there were declines in the domestic market (down 2.3 percentage points) and the French market (down 0.6 percentage points).

Despite these declines, Portuguese tourists remained the primary contributors to overnight stays and guest numbers in July. The average length of stay increased slightly to 4.9 nights, with the Irish, Belgian, and Swedish markets leading in room occupancy, averaging 6.9, 6.5, and 6.4 nights, respectively.

For investors, these trends suggest a stable tourism market in the Algarve, with opportunities to cater to growing international markets while also addressing the shifts in domestic tourism demand.
