The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has removed the Dominican Republic from the watch list of the Special 301 Report on Intellectual Property for the first time since 1996. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and SMEs (MICM) and the Interministerial Council on Intellectual Property (CIPI) have contributed significantly to the protection of intellectual property rights in this decision. To encourage innovation and economic development, the government’s commitment to preserving intellectual property was underlined by Minister Vctor -Ito- Bisonó. Excellent results have been achieved by the coordinated actions of state entities to combat illicit activities and strengthen institutions. The CIPI, created by Decree 776-22, is responsible for designing and co-ordinating intellectual property policies, enhancing institutional capacities and inter-institutional cooperation. The Dominican Republic’s dedication to upholding intellectual property rights is evident in this achievement that signals a favorable investment environment.
